Patch Test Policy

1. Purpose
Your safety is our priority. Patch testing helps identify potential sensitivity to certain products before your appointment. This policy explains when tests are required, how they’re done, and how long they remain valid.
2. Services that require a patch test
You must have a current, valid patch test for:
- Hair colour services (including tints, toners, root applications, scalp bleach, and refreshes)
- Brow or lash tinting
We may also require a patch test at our discretion for: lash lift/lamination products, brow lamination, and certain smoothing treatments. Conditioning treatments and haircuts do not usually require a patch test.
3. Who needs a patch test and when
A patch test is required if any of the following apply:
- You are a new client to Kutting Korner for colour/tint services
- It has been 6 months or more since your last colour/tint with us
- You’ve had any change to health/medication, had COVID-19 or other viral illness, pregnancy or breastfeeding, tattoos/piercings, or henna/black henna since your last test
- We are changing brand/formulation or the service type
We do not provide hair colour or brow/lash tinting services to under-16s.
4. Timing and how to book
Patch tests must be completed at least 48 hours before your colour/tint appointment.
How it works: we apply a tiny amount of product behind the ear or inner elbow; keep the area dry and undisturbed for 45–60 minutes, then observe for 48 hours.

5. Validity
A successful test is normally valid for 6 months, provided there are no changes outlined in Section 3. If any trigger occurs, a new test is required before we proceed.
6. If you experience a reaction
If you notice redness, itching, swelling, heat, blistering, or any discomfort:
- Remove the product immediately with cool water and mild soap
- Do not scratch or cover with occlusive dressings
- Seek medical advice if symptoms persist or are severe
- Tell us as soon as possible at hello@kuttingkorner.uk
We will not carry out the service if a reaction occurs.
7. No-test / invalid-test policy
For your safety, we cannot perform colour/tint services without a valid patch test. If you arrive without one, we will happily rebook you once testing is complete.
8. Records and consent
We record the date, product, and outcome of your patch test and your service consent. Your information is handled in line with our Privacy Policy.
9. Home tests and waivers
We cannot accept results from home patch tests or other salons. We also do not accept waivers in place of a patch test.
